2008-03-28 Mostly great, though verges on smug and irritating at times
I mostly loved this book.I really did.I totally related to much of what Liz said, particularly the section on marriage which I found reassuringly honest. And it was great to know that I'm not the only mother who forgets to give her kids pocket money.
However I just found that a slightly patronising "if you don't do it my way then you're a bad parent" tone crept into the text at times. She does set the bar very high in terms of her parenting standards and it would be easy for someone to read this and come away feeling like a wee bit of a failure in comparison to Liz. I found her assertion that those who use the TV as a babysitter so they can go and phone their best mate in peace are being neglectful slightly over the top - but in the main I enjoyed the book and found many parts of it very helpful and motivating.
