One way to compare International Business texts are to classify them as either descriptive or analytical. Descriptive texts describe in detail the internationalization process and answer the question - 'How does a business go global/international?' Analytical texts, like Hill, discuss the internationalization process but also address why businesses chose to go global and the managerial implications of the decisions. International Business, 3/e: 1) Explains how and why the world's countries differ; 2) Presents a thorough review of the economics and politics of international trade and investment 3) Explains the functions of and form of the global monetary system; 4) Examines the strategies and structures of international business and 5) Assesses the special roles of an international business's various functions.
Market-defining since it was first introduced, "International Business 5e" by Charles W. L. Hill, continues to set the standard for international business textbooks. In writing the book, Charles Hill draws on his expertise in teaching, writing, and consulting to create the most thorough, up-to-date, and thought-provoking text on the market. Because many issues in international business are complex, the text explores the pros and cons of economic theories, government policies, business strategies, organizational structures, etc. Hill's "International Business" goes beyond the often shallow explanations that other books offer, while maintaining a tight integrated flow between the chapters. Hill's book is practical in nature, focusing on the managerial implications of each topic on the actual practice of international business. The author's passion and enthusiasm for the international business arena is apparent on every page as he strives to make important theories interesting, informative, and accessible to all students.
Updated information has been added since the publication of the 3rd edition. This postscript edition includes information on the breakdown of the World Trade Organization meetings in Seattle, the birth of the euro and the rebound of the Asian economics from the 1997-1998 crisis.
2007-08-22 great resource
Bought this book to try and get to grips with international business theory - as due to start an MBA after 20 years out of formal education. Thought I might find it a bit boring - but it's so interesting - in general. Of course, I'm old enough to decipher the opinion from the fact so can take what's relevant. Well laid out and edited. Great buy - learnt a lot.similar books
