2004-02-27 A good way to learn about school.

Although a little old-fashioned now, I have found this one of the most helpful books available with which to prepare your child for the great adventure of starting 'big school'. Shirley Hughes never compromises plot or character, but she still delivers a lot of information. When I read it with my eldest child the free milk seemed to date it, but now some schools are reintroducing that! The illustrations are detailed and realistic. Other books which I would recommend are The Anholts' "Billy and the Big New School" and the Ahlbergs' "Starting School".
