2007-10-17 Kids will love this

I bought my son a book called The Night Pirates (also superb) last Christmas and, since then, he has been ever so slightly obsessed with being a pirate. When I saw this on Amazon, I couldn't resist.

My lad is currently aged 3, but I imagine any mini-Blackbeard from 3 to about 7 or 8 will get on well with this. It is a clever mix of great artwork, humour and plot that is just long enough not to be a chore when read twice through. There is enough here to bring out a wry smile in mum or dad, and plenty to make the kids laugh out loud. I won't give away the plot; suffice it is to say that Mungo brought the whole thing on himself by asking his mum to read the book five times! When mum has had enough and leaves our hero to thumb through the pages himself, he finds that the hero in his bedtime story is also tired out, and in dire need of a holiday and a substitute. It's at that point that bedtime reading becomes a bit more interesting.....

I can highly recommend this book to any parent. After all, any book which features a Purple Berserker Bird deserves a place on the bookshelf!
