2003-03-27 Great book - if you can already read music

This book is a recommended text for a number of music degree courses and along with the included CD is an excellent source of information to enhance your enjoyment of jazz. It is written in a straightforward, authoritive manner and has a wide range of music to illuminate the discussions - but what it is not is a book for beginners. Extensive use of music script is included and if (like me) you cannot read music it limits the usefulness. If you can read music it probably warrants 5 stars
