Jill Mansell, unlike other writers in the rom-com arena, seems to get better with every book she writes. Thinking of You is her latest offering and proves that it is possible to get better with age!
Ginny Holland, a best selling author if left rattling around in her house on her own after daughter Jem goes to university. Lonely, she advertises her spare room for rent. Instead of a happy roommate, she gets moaning Laurel who is still hung up on her ex-boyfriend. If that wasn’t enough, Ginny finds herself lusting after two men who can only be bad for her. Will Ginny get the man of her dreams, or will he be the one that gets away?
Mansell has a disarming ability to create characters that you already know and that tends to make her books impossible to put down. This book is no different. It is charmingly written, hopelessly funny and will make you forget all of your own troubles as soon as you read the first page.

'Finally, an intelligent thriller written by an intelligent writer. And a very good writer.'
2006-02-15 Average Oil Industry Thriller
Having read and enjoyed his book "The Last Nazi" (which seems to be out of print at the moment?) I thought I'd give Stan Pottinger's latest paperback "The Boss" a go.Set around the American oil industry the main characters work for/own an oil company. When things start to go wrong with the company the owner Spin resorts to desperate measures. What does his "son" Max do when he finds out? What does Spin's lover Tacoma do? There's a love twist also with Tacoma being an ex of Max.
A decent enough read but I was never really drawn to the characters. I felt limited empathy towards them and felt they all deserved whatever they got. The story was decent enough, just a bit weak on characterisation. There are a couple of twists in the story to keep you happily turning the pages. But perhaps feeling slightly unfulfilled at the end.
He?s written two other novels ? ?The Fourth Procedure? and ?A Slow Burning?. After reading ?The Boss? I?m having second thoughts about tracking them down in a hurry. An average 5/10 for this one.
