2001-02-06 Very informative
I really enjoyed reading this book. There has been so much mystification of women in the Isalmic world and it was refreshing to get an unbiased, honest, and first hand account of how women actually live in Revolutionary Iran. It tells exactly what women are and are not allowed to do under Islamic law, and how they sometimes get around seemingly insurmountable obstacles. It explained why there is not the revolution that other media reports would have us believe is inevitable. In other words, life is difficult but not unbearable for most Iranian women. A big thank you to John and Tira for this open account. It was interesting to read that in a land which censors so much, the Iranian government actually seems to have encouraged this book because it was an honest account and did not disparage Islam or Iran.similar books
