2008-06-27 Where's the plot?
I am a huge Fiona Walker fan, and have read all her books, especially loving her first three (French Relations, Kiss Chase and Well Groomed,) with their great characters and action packed, what's-going-to-happen-next plots. However, I had never read Snap Happy until now because school friends at the time it was written warned me that it wasn't very good. Ten years later, I decided it was time I made up my own mind about it, and was horribly disappointed to discover that they were right. As much as I liked the character of Juno, and a tiny bit of suspense is presented in the form of Jay's mysterious character and background, there is no plot at all- just 566 pages leading to what was obviously going to happen all along. I don't think it is spoiling it because this is mentioned on the blurb, but Juno and Jay's three-night stand and the after math just didn't really ring true for me.
It was well written enough to make me smile on several occasions and keep me going to the end, and filled in the gaps of the same characters that appear in Between Males, but overall I felt like Fiona was being pressured by her publishers to come up with another book and hurridly spat out this. Anyone else would have got two stars- only because it is her does she get three.similar books
