2005-04-11 a fast paced gripping read

This is a fast paced gripping read.

The action is set in London in the week before the Pearl Harbour attack. It's a spy thriller, but is inspired by real events, which for me gives the plot an extra edge. In the course of the book the American hero discovers evidence that Japan is planning to attack the US. But why has this evidence been placed in his way by a German agent ?

This book will appeal to you if you enjoy a fast paced read and aren't expecting deep psychological analysis of the main characters. It has a good line in humour, some memorable action sequences, and a well structured plot that keeps you guessing what's going to happen next as you follow the hero's adventures. I enjoyed it for these reasons, but also because it carried me, more convincingly than I might have expected, to the cratered landscape of London after the Blitz, and made me ponder about possible parallels and differences with another attack on America 60 years later ...
