Jill Mansell, unlike other writers in the rom-com arena, seems to get better with every book she writes. Thinking of You is her latest offering and proves that it is possible to get better with age!
Ginny Holland, a best selling author if left rattling around in her house on her own after daughter Jem goes to university. Lonely, she advertises her spare room for rent. Instead of a happy roommate, she gets moaning Laurel who is still hung up on her ex-boyfriend. If that wasn’t enough, Ginny finds herself lusting after two men who can only be bad for her. Will Ginny get the man of her dreams, or will he be the one that gets away?
Mansell has a disarming ability to create characters that you already know and that tends to make her books impossible to put down. This book is no different. It is charmingly written, hopelessly funny and will make you forget all of your own troubles as soon as you read the first page.

2008-03-18 Good story, not so good characterisation
The detective stories at the heart of the book are gripping with an exciting finale. There are two murders to be investigated, plus diversions into the personal lives of the main characters. My misgivings about the book are more to do with the construction of the narrative and writing style. I found the chopping and changing within chapters between the parallel stories at times confusing as I tried to keep track of who was whom. Sometimes there is a just a paragraph relating to one story before a switch to another strand of the book. The construction of the book reminded me a bit of a film with short scenes and flash-backs in time. My other negative feeling about the book is that, for me at least, the characters didn't come to life in my mind's eye. By the end of the book I had no mental image of what the characters looked like, whereas with other writers I can visualize their fictional constructions. For me Karen Fossum is the queen of Scandinavian crime writers.
