2004-05-19 Disappointed that this was a reprint and not a new novel
I was disappointed when I received this book to find that it was actually a reprint of two previous stories of Jayne Castle - 'After Dark' (a full length novel) and 'Bridal Jitters'(a novella). This is the reason for my rating of three stars only. However, both of these stories are fun if you like JAK's paranormal series. In 'After Dark' the disgraced para archaelogist, Lydia Smith, meets her new client, Emmett London, over a sarcophogus containing the body of a 'ruin rat' friend of Lydia. Together they become involved in investigating the murder and the intertwined mystery of the disappearance of Emmett's nephew.
JAK tells the story with her usual flare and style, but the end is not as neatly concluded as some of her other novels - you really need to read the sequel, 'After Glow', to get the answers to all the questions that the book raises.
'Bridal Jitters' is another para-archaelogy/ghost hunter story also set in Harmony. Virginia Burch and Sam Gage have set up business together and agreed to a two year marriage of convenience to cement the partnership. Virginia is getting nervous about the decision as she realises that she doesn't want a relationship based on good business sense, and is planning to call off the deal when they are attacked underground and become trapped together in a mysterious alien hall which feels very much as if it is inhabited by real ghosts...
