2008-07-22 Good but not as good ...
Another well written and fun story from Christina Dodd, but I have to admit to being a little disappointed .. the characters were pleasant and the plot was engaging enough, but it never quite gripped me in the way her previous novels have done.I didn't feel any connection with the lead characters, and I felt a couple of the subsiduary characters were very under-used, but the worst of all was the ending (don't worry, fellow lovers of happy endings, guy gets girl as planned!) which had me going "eh???" and turning the page to make sure I'd got it right and that was indeed the end.
Ok, it's a great lead in to the next book - which is the only purpose I can see for it - but I like my books to live for themselves alone, and this one's ending just kinda dropped off the edge of the world!
Buy it if you're going on a train journey or long haul flight: it won't embarrass you with laugh-out-loud moments like Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum novels, and it won't have you gripping the hand of the stranger in the next seat in terror like some thrillers might .. it's a pleasant, easy, totally put-downable book.
To sum up: worth its price, but don't expect it to quite live up to the standards of Tongue in Chic or Trouble in High Heels.
