2001-06-02 Heavyweight and focused
This book is very thorough in a mathematical way, but those with practical knowledge in this subject are not catered for. However those who leave university never having used a soldering iron will be happy. Many concepts that are easier from an engineering viewpoint, eg, the radio spectrum (blindingly obvious to anyone) are obscured by the theoretical stance. Even concepts like autocorrelation, which aren't too tricky look very difficult here. There's not one circuit or application to a real electronic component to sweeten the pill for engineers, and some block diagrams are too crude. But it's a very modern tome, with ADSL and spread-spectrum techniques included. With an eye to DSP, the physical limits on performance are described. There's very little to do with "systems" here. A better name would be "Mathematical theories of channel processes and modulation techniques", but that wouldn't be focused.similar books
