2008-05-30 Grabbed me from the very beginning

An adventure story about a literary fraud? But it is, and enjoyable and thoughtprovoking too. My Australian friend really hated it, feeling that Carey had appropriated an incident that was part of his national heritage. Me, I just thought it was great. I can't imagine feeling the same about any author appropriating something from my English/British heritage, but maybe we are even less nationalistic than Australians these days?
