The tenth edition of this book maintains a strong practical aspect, in both the general considerations of anaesthetic procedures and the interaction of these procedures with animals of all the domestic species, in various disease states. The initial section describes aspects of anatomy, physiology, pharmacology and pathology pertinent to all anaesthetic patients and combines these with practical considerations regarding evaluation and monitoring of patients from experienced anaesthetists. The chapter on local analgesia, including epidural techniques is one I found particularly interesting and again, the description of the procedures allows one to perform them with confidence in practice. A second section gives a comprehensive and specific review of anaesthesia in all of the common domestic species, and a third considers the approaches to anaesthesia for particular circumstances such as obsetrical manipulations and intrathoracic surgery. Throughout, the book is written in a clear and concise style and illustrations are used effectively to further clarify the content. A mine of information in an affordable and accessible book. JH
