Jill Mansell, unlike other writers in the rom-com arena, seems to get better with every book she writes. Thinking of You is her latest offering and proves that it is possible to get better with age!
Ginny Holland, a best selling author if left rattling around in her house on her own after daughter Jem goes to university. Lonely, she advertises her spare room for rent. Instead of a happy roommate, she gets moaning Laurel who is still hung up on her ex-boyfriend. If that wasn’t enough, Ginny finds herself lusting after two men who can only be bad for her. Will Ginny get the man of her dreams, or will he be the one that gets away?
Mansell has a disarming ability to create characters that you already know and that tends to make her books impossible to put down. This book is no different. It is charmingly written, hopelessly funny and will make you forget all of your own troubles as soon as you read the first page.

Rachel has been making people laugh since the moment she could speak. She can even see the funny side when her husband leaves her for a cosmetics demonstrator. Called Greg. Rachel becomes a professional stand-up comedian, but has yet to break into the big time. And with a child and a mortgage, she needs a day job to make ends meet. So Rachel spends her mornings cleaning the houses of the rich and famous, much to the chagrin of her mother Stella (main ambition: to see Rachel safely re-married). Life for Rachel couldn't be sweeter, but it lacks a certain spark. But there are sparks a-plenty when the washing machine breaks down and a repair man called Matt arrives...and sends her into a spin.
2002-05-18 Starts off well...
This is the story of stand-up comedian Rachel and her relationships with her parents, friends, employers and uptight boyfriend Adam. It's also about her romance with sexy washing machine repairman Matt. While I enjoyed Launderama, it started off well, but the apparent need to keep on cracking one-liners was a bit relentless. Every character in the book turned into a comedian, replying in dialogue with ripostes and punch-lines. There were some laugh out loud moments which were truly hilarious and I really, really wanted to enjoy the whole book in similar fashion. Perhaps the author concentrated on the humour at the expense of characterisation and pace. The characters are, without exception, entirely whacky and outrageous and that makes the book a bit one-tonal. Still, Rachel is endearing and Matt is one very sexy hero.
