A brand-new title in the foreign language "Grammar Review" series, this book covers virtually every rule of French grammar and usage. Following a summary of rules for correct pronunciation and spelling, the author goes on to review verb tenses, as well as reflexive verbs, the subjunctive, the imperative, and infinitive verb forms. Rules governing nouns, pronouns modifiers, prepositions, interrogatives, and negative forms are also examined in detail. The book's final chapters cover miscellaneous topics such as numbers, time and dates, idioms, synonyms, antonyms, and cognates. Interesting French cultural notes can be found throughout the text. This book makes a fine reference guide and review manual for intermediate students of French on a secondary school or college level. It includes practice questions with answers.

I bought this book after getting a job with a European Union institution. This involved me living and working in a French speaking country. I used this book to tweak my French grammar, and was surprised that even as a fairly competent speaker of French, there was stuff in here I had not considered. I can now read EU Commission documents in French with around 90%+ comprehension. This book has several main strengths over other French grammar books. Firstly, it is extremely user friendly, with friendly font faces and colours. It is never over technical, but at the same time, retains academic discipline and rigour, so essential to grammar books. Some other titles in a desperate bid to be user friendly can sometimes over look this. Secondly, the end of unit tests are genuinely searching and challenging, not the infantile tasks often found in other titles.
All in all, an excellent title for anyone serious about learning French to buy.
