2000-06-28 A must for parents of anxious children
This book is a must for parents of anxious children and adults who were anxious as children. Once again the Americans have done it better than us. Americans are ahead of us in acknowledging the now undeniable fact that anxiety problems have a genetic (biochemical) trigger. The authors clearly explain how an over-reactive genetic make-up can combine with our environment to produce an anxious child. The book has great dignity and avoids the pitfalls of many self-help books. There is a noticeable absence of psycho-babble and parental blame. Parents are offered clear guidelines to help their children. Some self-help books can be repetitive and lacking in substance. This book is clear, concise and full of advise which we can all use. It explains how to train our children to be their own cognitive therapists. Children can be helped to live with and control their anxious personalities and parents for once feel free from guilt and empowered with tools to carry out their parental responsibilities.Thank you Dacey and Fiore
