2008-04-01 Very well written book

A superbly written book, I know of no other physiology txtbook that can explain complex topics so well for medical students.

However, I feel that it does not quite merit 5 stars. It suffers from the same flaw which lets down all of the Lange textbooks: very few diagrams and any included are monochromatic and uninspiring. This is detrimental if you are, like me, a mainly visual learner. The chapter on the nervous systems also is not the book's strongest point.

Bearing this in mind, I bought a brand new copy of Vander's physiology with all it's helpful and colourful illustrations and flow diagrams.

A good point about this book (Ganong's) is that a new edition is published every 2 years or so to keep it bang up-to-date with any scientific advantages. This does mean that it is quite easy to get a 2nd hand version of this textbook from Amazon Marketplace or a similar site for a much cheaper price. I did just that, getting a copy that was 2/3 editions old for about a fiver. I now use it in conjunction with Vander's, everytime I'd like to read something explained really well.

So although I would say that this textbook is an excellent buy, be aware of it's possible flaws especially if you like your physiology explained with good diagrams.
