Whether castrating horses or dehorning cattle in the wilds of Wicklow, rescuing mangled cats from mongrels or tending to stoned Alsatians in Dublin's inner suburbs, vet Gillian Hick's sense of humour never deserts her in this engaging account of the sometimes hair-raising situations she encounters in the course of her work. Not only does she have to deal with animals and their ailments, but she also has to contend with the perils of macho farmers and their matchmaking mothers - not to mention the guys who want to know 'Where is the real vet?'
2008-07-09 A must read for all animal lovers - great present too!
I loved this book so much I have bought it for a number of people since! It gives a different insight into the world of a young vet and her trials and tribulations through her first year of practice. At times hilarious and others thoughtful and emotional - each chapter is vividly written so you can almost imagine yourself there. Well written and difficult to put down it is highly recommended - and I hope there is another in the pipeline!similar books
