2007-12-20 Very good and applicable advice is given

I am a 50 year old dad with two sons. One of them is a 15 year old teen ager and the experiences we have been having with him are so similar to some of the cases on this CD. For the past year I read so many adolescent parenting books that give detailed statistics about adolescent behavior but very little practical methods to deal with the challenges of parenting such adolescents. This CD is one of the best and few that clearly explain parents what to do and not to do. I have yet to apply them fully but the results I got from application so far are very encouraging. For example no matter how violent and rude the adolescent gets verbally towards his / her parents the parents must not respond in a similar way. When I am able to apply this advice our relationship improves, when I react to him and yell back as we have been doing for years our relationship deteriorates. The analysis and advice in this CD is valid in many urban parts of the world not just in the USA. These are not just American modes of behavior. We are Turkish and pertain to the middle class in Istanbul. We and some of our friends experience exactly the same scenarios explained in the CD and can benefit from the advice given there. I do not agree with people who dismiss these as American problems and solutions that are not valid elsewhere in the world. I think adolescence problems in the urban middle class are very similar throught the world whether you are in New York, Tokyo, Istanbul, Hamburg or any other major city. If you are a parent going through tough times with your adolescent then I strongly recommend that you listen to this CD or read the book with an open mind over and over again and more importantly apply the advice consistently.
