As per the author's previous effort, fanciful plot and too many coincidences. For the racing enthusiast, there can surely be nothing more annoying than the blatant inaccuracies in this book, for example: Stratford racecourse, has now become a circuit of 2.6 miles (wrong), and a steeplechase becomes a hurdle race before it finishes ! (pages 24 and 25).
However, what makes this book truly awful are the typos, some of which can genuinely fool you. E.G Page 120; "Howard had had a mighty internal battle" (Should he go to one course or the other)".....this would be his first run without Harold being present"! What is the guy's name Howard or Harold?!!!
Other gems: (page 116) "The The The Conker"; (page 248 Hamish Tan becomes Hamish Tang; (page 220)"Jay checked that the two runners for that day...." (page 221) "good luck pats and wishes were adminstered to the three runners as they were led out......" Somewhere else Jay takes "a long drawer on his cigar"!
Mr Roe also has an obsession with the word young. Everywhere it's young man, young jockey, young people, young Paul, young trainer, and my god does he like a phone call. Each page seems to have at least three, the bills must be enormous.
I paid 1p for this, and feel short changed. Apparently this "author" has another book out, which I shall try and steal, and see if it is as bad as the first two. I wouldn't pay anything for it.
As for the other reviewer of this woeful effort, he must be related to the writer or deranged!!!similar books
