2008-02-09 Gothic Delight

I really enjoyed reading Bridgette Cassese's collection of romantic, Gothic-style tales. The title story,'Black Dove', starts dramatically when an artistic, high-flying career woman discovers her fiancee has been cheating. Jaded and disillusioned with the fast life she escapes to Cornwall intending to start a different more restful kind of existence.

The story takes on supernatural element when the heroine falls in love with a handsome artist. As the story evolves, the reader enters an enchanting and mysterious world. I particularly enjoyed the author's unique ideas involving new ways of viewing art, such as paintings in which the landscape shifts and transforms. The supernatural twist and the futuristic touch combine to make this book strikingly original.
