2008-10-09 Disappointing
Having enjoyed all Keyes books so far, and especially the 3 first books of this series, I was looking forward to reading the Born Queen. But what a disappointment! Several writers have managed to "change" the characters in their books from evil to nice or from heroes to villains. However, such a change cannot happen to all the characters at once, and most certainly it cannot happen at the end of the fourth volume! The second half of the book, where everyone's character seems to change completely, is just confusing. Plus I absolutely hate it when everyone's behaviour just changes because of some "magic" higher powers - yes, many writers do this, but it looks like the easy way out when the plot simply will not work and the author is running out of ideas. Not something I would have expected from Keyes.Anyway, the writing style is still good, so I will give two stars to the book, but the plot is definitely not what I expected. Too many things happening so some of the characters really do not get enough time, too many "divine" interventions and magical character shifts to move things forward and too much confusion.
