2008-04-18 A Chase into the Cold

After internal politics in Minnesota got too much for Lucas Davenport he decided to move to the colder countryside to write computer games. However, when a family is brutally murdered his expertise as a man that catches killers quick is once more in demand. Davenport is deputised and asked to lead an investigation that will rip a small town in two. Not only have a family been killed, but it seems a child sex ring may be in operation. When Davenport feels the buzz of the chase again he once more sets out to catch a killer.

`Winter Prey' is a novel in the Prey series that acts as a crucial turning point. In the book we meet Weather, a doctor who proves to become a regular, and an event occurs that mellows Davenport for later books. This character development is only the icing on what is a very exciting and fact paced thriller. From the very first chapter the reader is on a rollercoaster as the hunt is on. Of all the Prey novels this one represents best the no nonsense action that has made them so good in my view. The number of killings may be a little on the high side, but you do not care as you are swept along by an action master. I would recommend the Prey series to any reader who enjoys fast action crime thrillers that do not aim to tax the brain too much.
