2008-08-05 Delightful
This is one of my favourite books, almost like a fairytale that I pick off my shelf occasionally to read before bed. It is a short story but the author has managed to successfully put in a lot of themes into the story and I enjoyed some of the rich gothic descriptions to the book. The story is about two sisters called Mercy and Charity who live in a huge, gothic mansion along with their widowed father, governess and maid. However they are all stuck in a twlight world where the same day is constantly repeated. There lives are perpetual cycles that never cease. However Mercy sees a flower on her pillow, the first sign of spring in a world where it is always winter. This revelation sets off a series of strange events.
This triggers a change in Mercy who decides to try and discover what had occured long ago as well as finding a possible way to lift the curse on the household. However as Mercy dives deeper into her family's history it becomes obvious that certain people in the household would prefer the secrets to remain long buried and Mercy finds herself more alone than ever before.
I would definately recommend this book as a pleasent book with a very satisfying ending.
