2008-04-07 Deep Trouble
I do love Gilbert! He's so big, and he can be so naughty, but he is as endearing as a favourite nephew! He won't admit to being scared, but no one is fooled, least of all his long-suffering friend Rita. And the story ends in a warm and reassuring way, with Mum taking him home. This story will definitely appeal to little ones, and there's a bonus for Mum or Dad, too: Jane Clarke sneaks puns and word play into her tale which entertain without detracting from the theme. The book is worth reading for the closing word alone. . .
