2006-03-26 Bloody Mary: Bloody Awful

Being a big fan of Garth Ennis, I was really savouring this latest publication. However it really is Ennis on auto-pilot, falling flat pretty much all the way through. We all know Ennis can do manic action much better: see his excellent Punisher books. This is a character that generally represents all that is wrong with comic characters, but Ennis brings so much humour intellignce and sheer verve to it, that it comes off brilliantly. But with Bloody Mary, we get a very uneven pacing of spoof, practically slapstick humour, and odd bits of 'war is hell' thrown together.

On the artwork side, Ezquerra performs well, but seems a little lacklustre as well. You know how he has about seven types of character designs? Well they're all here, just for you.
