2007-12-30 Sweet, funny, and cute

Alcohol, Shirt and Kiss is a lovingly-drawn tale of two detectives falling in love. Big-eyed uke Naru is struggling to get over a breakup by drinking with his rather gruff colleague Kita-san. But there's a problem... he keeps waking up in Kita-san's bed!

The manga follows their blossoming relationship and their own personal changes. It's easy to read and the artwork is very clean. The characters look interesting, and, whilst they still follow the convention of big-eyed uke and tall, buff seme, they are easy to tell apart from other characters (all of whom have their own stories happening in the background, too).

The storyline consists of 8 short stories with one central arc, as well as an oddball bonus story at the end. It's funny and sweet, and whilst it all falls under BL, there are plenty of inexplicit-but-still-sexy scenes happening throughout the book, with one mild yaoi scene included.

I wish there were more to the Kita & Naru series, but it looks like these characters are retired now. As more of a yaoi than a BL fan, I'm generally not a fan of June's series of manga, but this is one that I can recommend to everybody. If you liked Fake then this is definitely for you!
