2003-07-17 Disappointed but hold on to it for exams!
I bought this book as a junior registrar looking to buy an inexpensive operative manual. That is to say, I wanted information about incisions and craniotomy flaps in detail. Sadly, this book seems to comprise of lists sub-divided by headings! Although comprehensive, and very good for certain operations (the section on peripheral nerve surgery, particularly sural nerve biopsies was very clear) the book lacks details required by the inexperienced surgeon. Coupled with this, there are very few illustrations to help the reader obtain a clear picture of the procedure. Although I am still a long way off the FRCS(SN) exam, my senior colleagues have informed me that this an excellent book for last minute revision. The long lists and bullet points are very useful in this respect. My advice to a junior registrar looking for operative instruction? I think the larger tomes may be worth an investment even if they are considerably more expensive. I will keep hold of my copy however until the exams come along.similar books
