Here they are again, the three novels that introduced us all to the Liaden Universe over a decade ago. It is time to get reacquainted with our old friends: Edger & Sheather, Liz, Susiki, Jason & Anthora, Val Con & Miri and Priscilla & Shan. Remember how Miri and Val Con first met? How about the trouble Priscilla was in before she met Shan? Who can forget the way that Edger and Sheather have of coming to a friend's rescue or contemplating the weave of a carpet? Partners in Necessity also contains a new introduction by Anne McCaffery and a new afterword by Sharon Lee and Steve Miller. The exceptional cover art is by Michael Herring.

2001-02-08 Good and bad. Shallow and deep
I had never heard of either of these authors until they were recomended by Amazon and now I am pleased that I read this omnibus edition of their three Liaden Universe novels. The first (written second in real life) is a good character study of life on a trading starship and the relationship between two main characters. Some nice invention of culture. Reminiscent of Andre Norton's 'Postmarked The Stars'. Second book is a James Bond novel in space. The least enjoyable of the three. Third novel is a chase story, but well and tightly written. There is always a danger when characters posses or use mental powers that it then becomes a solution for every problem. The authors avoid this, just. On the plus side, the adventuring is well written and enjoyable. I would by more books on the strength of this.similar books
