assuming you can get past the academic style in which it is written, this book is super.

It takes the parables of Jesus and then strips away nicely the two thousand years that has been laid on top, in much the same way as the 'camel' and the 'eye of the needle'.

The mindset of near eastern culture in biblical times is used to interpret Jesus' words making them actually make sense.

The working of the supposed 'prodigal son' is awesome.

Another book that should be on the reading list of all new christians before their preachers, pastors and friends fill their heads with allegorical interpretations of the parables and spiritualise their meanings.

Cannot recommend it highly enough (well i could have given it 5/5 i suppose but i am not due to the academic language).
