Including a practical language chapter with a section on Corsican, this guide provides the lowdown to the island's cuisine, history and accommodation. There are also hints on where to sample tasty local disges, the best dive sites and a section on walking and the famous GR20 route.

Most disapponting. Subsequently bought the Rough Guide and found it much more illuminating - not to mention 200 pages longer! The Lonely Planet was perfunctory by comparison and merely skimmed the surface. It contained far fewer recommended walks, for instance, and completely failed to mention what is apparently the most spectacular approach to the island's highest mountain Monte Cinto or day walks in the remote Niolo and Asco valleys. The authors are also contradictory in their assessments. In one section, St Florent is described as a delightful resort worth visiting but another suggested readers get out of town as quickly as possible to avoid the well-heeled yachting fraternity. And the Rough Guide tone was much more appealing. It appeared to have been written by someone who genuinely enjoyed the island but didn't pull any punches when pointing out its drawbacks (crowds in July & August, asbestos on the beach at Nonza, etc). It apeared the Lonely Planet author, on the other hand, couldn't wait to get the first plane home.similar books
