2001-01-18 Updated Janet and John - fantastic!

I heard Janet and John was coming back, years after I learned to read with it, and this was the first of the new books I got my hands on. I was pleasantly surprised. 'Back to School' is colourful, really lively and - best of all - my kids could totally relate to the stories in it. In the stories are the frantic pre-September shopping, worn out shoes, new haircuts, and tired mum's that are familiar for that time of year. I read this with my kids and we laughed at John's scruffiness and Janet's cheeky imagination. Nice too to see a male teacher and kids in the class from all over the world. This book was really refreshing - a lot better than most of the readers for 6 year olds in the shops. Long live Janet and John!
