Kidnappit is the Scots version of the exciting new graphic novelisation of Robert Louis Stevenson's Kidnapped, a dramatic and epic adventure story about a seventeen-year-old desperate to secure his inheritance, culminating in a chase from the islands in the west of Scotland to Edinburgh. Alan Grant and Cam Kennedy's graphic novel in English has been a big success and, to add to the mix, Matthew Fitt and James Robertson have translated Alan Grant's take on Stevenson's classic into Scots. Kidnappit, the Scots version, will cast a new light on the telling of this famous tale and is sure to capture the imaginations of readers young and old. Following on from the runaway success of Itchy Coo's other translations, The Eejits and Geordie's Mingin Medicine, both by Roald Dahl, Kidnappit is another high-quality and entertaining experience for the ever-growing readership who enjoy reading the world's literary classics in Scots.
Robert Louis Stevenson is one of the world's most celebrated authors creating some of the most memorable characters in fiction such as David Balfour, Jim Hawkins and Jekyll/Hyde. Matthew Fitt is the author and editor of numerous children's books written in Scots, including Hercules, Pure Ghosters and the Scots translations of The Eejits and Geordie's Mingin Medicine by Roald Dahl.

This is the Scots edition of an excellent graphic novel version of Stevenson's Kidnapped. (The same graphic novel has also been published in modern English and "Stevensonian" English, as part of Edinburgh's year as Literary capital of Europe.) Since Scots doesn't really exist as a national language, but rather as a skein of local and regional dialects, the book's "Scots" is rather artificial, with individual characters using vocabulary, accent and grammar that come from different regions of the country, rather like an Englishman speaking with a Cornish, Geordie and Leeds accent in the same senence. Who cares! It is a great read and the dialogue is ripe with comedy and danger. For Anglo-scots or Scots ex-pats with kids, buy this and one of the other versions.similar books
