I found this movingly authentic, true to life, and written with a real talent for highlighting the idiosyncracies and eccentricities of people. Combined with the valuable insight that Welshman affords into the daily life of a vet in practice this makes for a highly entertaining and memorable read. Of contemporary novels featuring animals (whose characters are depicted with a superb eye for detail) I would say this is by far the pick of the bunch.
