Thinking Of You - The Ultimate Escapist Read
Jill Mansell, unlike other writers in the rom-com arena, seems to get better with every book she writes. Thinking of You is her latest offering and proves that it is possible to get better with age!

Ginny Holland, a best selling author if left rattling around in her house on her own after daughter Jem goes to university. Lonely, she advertises her spare room for rent. Instead of a happy roommate, she gets moaning Laurel who is still hung up on her ex-boyfriend. If that wasn’t enough, Ginny finds herself lusting after two men who can only be bad for her. Will Ginny get the man of her dreams, or will he be the one that gets away?

Mansell has a disarming ability to create characters that you already know and that tends to make her books impossible to put down. This book is no different. It is charmingly written, hopelessly funny and will make you forget all of your own troubles as soon as you read the first page.

2008-03-20 A most disturbing read

A book of this type normally takes me all of four hours to read. The Tinderbox took several days, but why I'm not sure. Jo Bannister is a good writer, and The Tinderbox has certainly sufficient meat in it to make you want to go on turning the pages.
I hope that the basic story is a little far fetched but suspect that such might not be the case. It concerns a man whose daughter has disappeared and his quest to find her. This takes him into The Tinderbox which is a strange underworld where loyalties and family values count for little in the conventional sense.
The hero is not a particularly likeable person, in fact Bannister seems to delight in drawing him as a cold and calculating character. On the other and, the owner of a greasy spoon café is engaging, as is his protégée. I had to keep putting the book down to review my reaction to the narrative. This is not my favourite Jo Bannister novel, but it certainly is well worth reading and is recommended.
