2008-07-15 We Are Iran
Because of the nature of the book (the author is compelled to show the hidden and changing ideas in Iran), it spends more time on showing the worst of the Islamic regime. Yet I do not see this as much of a problem as the book doesn't claim to represent people who are illiterate and living in poverty because they wouldn't have access to a computer! Though, what it does do is important and real - it shows that there is growing restlessness in the Iranian public about the government and that it is NOT just limited to the 'rich kids'.Other reviewers have claimed that a major fault of the book is that it under represents the supporters of the regime but I do not think that is of utmost importance as the book doesn't claim that all Iranians are against the government, it just chooses to show the blogs that discuss change and the evolution of Iran.
After all, faithful supporters of the regime are considered one of the regime to most people. They are the ones who the regime has successfully made obedient but they are obedient because they are made obedient through propaganda or religion.
The motive of the book is to show ideas of change...even if it is too hopeful, it shows conveys the spirit and thought of an Iran separate from the government. Although we know that there are Iranians who support the government what is the use of repeating their ideals!
