2008-10-08 More Moomin Mayhem!

Drawn and Quarterly's series is shaping up to be a magnificent set of superbly produced books. The bizarre, endearing and curiously optimistic tales of the Moomins continue in this third book.

Once again the quality is superb, and the clarity of Jansson's sublimely skillful line drawings is crisp and bright. A pity the cover crops Moomintroll's nose, but that's quibbling.

No point to spoiling the plots - fans of the full length novels need have no fears; the same quiet humour and unexpected pathos can be found here. And if you're not a fan...what's wrong with you? Get the set and experience the work of a still underrated genius, whose work in this particular field (Jansson was also a painter and author of much acclaim) stands alongside Herge and Schulz and all the greats.
