2005-04-19 Welcome addition to the cannon
Yes, another book on Miles but this one is really welcome as it opens up ground which has not been covered in great depth in the past. It begins with a brief overview of Miles' life and work prior to his 'retirement' and then goes into detail regarding the silent years and the events that brought Miles back into playing. It then covers the issued albums in detail without resorting to musical analysis - which is good for me! Like all good jazz books it encourages the reader to re-visit the albums and listen more closely. This period may not have produced Miles' best or most lasting work but there is a great deal of stuff that is more than worthwhile. This book aids the understanding. There is no need to hesitate before buying, in my humble opinion.similar books
